For many women in Chicago and any city, their health care depends on their gynecologist. These doctors deal with health problems and conditions that are specific to women. The Women’s Aid Center presents the most common conditions that should prompt you to seek a gynecologist in Chicago:
Absence of menstruation
When women are of child-bearing age, they already know their menstrual cycles. When there is amenorrhea or absence of menstruation for more than two months, women should consult a gynecologist to know the reason. Your menstruation could be affected by factors such as rapid weight loss or stress, but you need to have it checked by a gynecologist to know the exact reason.
Regular menstruation lasts three to five days. If your menstruation lasts longer than one week, you need to see a gynecologist. Prolonged periods of menstruation are often a sign of benign growths or polyps in the uterus, but only your gynecologist could determine this.
Unusual vaginal discharge
A normal vaginal discharge should not be copious or thick. If you observe too much discharge and an offputting smell, consult your gynecologist right away. This could be a sign of an infection, and you would need treatment immediately. Consulting a specialist will help prevent complications.
Pelvic pain, vaginal discharge, and fever
Lower abdominal pain, pelvic pain, fever, and a greenish or yellowish vaginal discharge are not good signs. If you experience only pelvic pain on a regular basis, it could be a sign of some issue with the uterus, the cervix, the lower intestines, or the rectum. You should consult your gynecologist for an exact diagnosis and get the proper treatment.
Women experience symptoms and illnesses that are unique to their anatomy. However, a gynecologist can help women understand these symptoms and give a diagnosis that would prevent complications and treat their ailments.
