Parenting Wisely
Parenting Wisely is a group and interactive computer program and that teaches parents 13 effective parenting skills including:
- Active Listening- Let your child know that you are listening and trying to understand.
- Using "I" Statements- Help your child understand how you are feeling.
- Assertive Discipline- Learn how to discipline effectively and fairly.
- Contracting- Explaining what you expect from your child and what rewards and punishments will be.
Parenting Wisely is available for parents of school age children. It is also available in Spanish. You do not need computer skills to view Parenting Wisely. This program is free and open to any parents, stepparents, grandparents, or anyone looking to improve their communication skills. Groups meet at SSTAR, schools, and organizations that serve parents. The full group program is one hour weekly for 10 weeks. A condensed version is available for schools.
