Clean the mouth before the teeth grow.
Wipe the gum of your child using a dampened gauze or wet washcloth wrapped around your finger. Clean the excess food. This way, you can prevent bacteria to build up in your kid’s mouth. Ensure, however, that you do not rub too hard, as it can irritate the gum.
Avoid milk bottle cavities.
Leaving your toddler with a bottle of milk or juice for a long period causes teeth discoloration. The discoloration could progress to decay. Take the milk or juice bottle away from the kid once he or she is satisfied. Also, cut down on processed sugary foods and give natural foods.
Let the child start brushing teeth at age two.
Once all the milk teeth are out, teach your child how to brush his or her teeth. You should only use pea-sized fluoride toothpaste. Moreover, supervise the young children when brushing their teeth. The best way to do it is to brush together, and make brushing and flossing a daily routine at home.
Have regular dental exams.
Take your child to a kid dentist as soon as his or her first tooth appears or after his or her first birthday. Then go for a general oral health exam at least once or twice a year.
